I.D. IKE’S Roofing and Waterproofing was founded in 1999, through the desperation of one man trying to support his family – Ivan Ahmed. With over twenty years of working experience in the Construction field as a time served qualified carpenter, he was unable to find employment and was in dire need of earnings.
Later in the year a company called The Hub Stores offered him as opportunity to repair their roof and that was the beginning of I.D. Ike’s Roofing & Waterproofing becoming a success – through word of mouth.
The Hub Stores then referred other organisations like Milady’s to employ the services of this company.
With little or no advertising/publicity, this company name became unanimous relating to roofing and waterproofing, all through “word of mouth”
He started this business with neither staff nor vehicles. Public transport (taxi) was his mode of commuting back and forth, heaving a heavy toolbox in and out of taxis in order to meet his clients’ needs. When this company was launched, there was no proper structure, Ivan was working from his home which was rented in a little suburb called Mariannridge, his bedroom was his office. At conception, Ivan did all the admin and labour required for each project.
Although at first, his main aim was to provide for his family, but as the demand for the Company grew, staff and labourers were employed and this is now a family run business with his sons in law, whom he trained over the years, and an administrator who has over 15 years of experience in the company.
His objectives now include providing employment and job opportunities to skilled and un-skilled personnel (which he personally trained).
